As we come to the end of the first half of the Spring Term, and the half-way point in our academic year; I want, firstly, to thank you for your support and encouragement since my appointment, but also to reassure you of my plans and aspirations for the school, and more importantly, for our students.
I am aware of the difficulties that all of our students, and indeed parents, have had to face in recent times, not only due to the extreme circumstances caused by a national pandemic; but also due to a further change in the school’s leadership, in a relatively short space of time. Again, I am grateful for your patience and understanding in times of change.
After half-term, I plan to hold a parent/Headteacher introduction evening, followed by regular Parent/Head “surgeries”, to give you an opportunity to meet me, ask questions and seek any guidance or support you might need. I will notify you of the date of the introduction evening as soon as possible.
Our final week of this half-term has been another busy one, commencing with Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Monday. This was very well attended, and I hope that parents found it helpful and informative. Year 11 students had an English PPE exam on Monday, as well as a real IT exam on Thursday. We wish them the best of luck for their results.
Year 9 students received information regarding the forthcoming Options process in their assembly this week, and have started attending 1:1 meetings with the Principal, Vice-Principal and Assistant Principal to discuss their choices in more detail. These meetings will continue after half-term.
Year 12 Performing Arts students presented their assessed performance of “Stomp” on Wednesday to an audience of staff, parents and their peers. The performance was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.
Our Environmental Group have continued to work hard this week, building a bug hotel and clearing rubbish from the wild meadow and pond area, ready for future refurbishment. I have included some pictures below.
We have also had assemblies every day this week based on the theme of Children’s Mental Health awareness, as well as Safer Internet day on Tuesday. These are important events in the school calendar, providing vital information, guidance and support to students regarding their safety and wellbeing.
It only remains for me to wish you all a well-deserved, peaceful and relaxing half-term break. I look forward to welcoming all students back to the academy on Monday 21st February.
