Year 11 Support

Intervention & Support at Rivers

Teaching and learning are at the heart of our curriculum however there are times when a student may develop gaps in skill or knowledge. To close these gaps, we offer a range of methods to support students on their journey to maximise their academic success.

Super 6

Sessions operate 15.20-16.20 with a late bus service provided. Sessions are generally smaller than average class sizes with ideal size being between 8-12 students and address specific gaps in knowledge and skill. Staff select students for Super 6 that they believe they can have a positive impact on their outcomes.

Research from The Education endowment foundation state that the average impact of students attending Super 6 is equal to an additional three months’ progress over the course of a year.

Super 6 has been instrumental in raising attainment at Rivers and we are very grateful that staff are willing to give up their free time to support our students.

Morning Intervention

Sessions operate 08.50-09.20 (Tutor time) twice a week. Students will be placed in one of the following subject support groups based on the student’s academic need:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • History
  • Computer Science
  • Revision Skills

A Subject specialists will lead each session and focus on raising attainment. Morning Intervention groups can change with improved outcomes, so it is possible for a student to move subject mid academic year.
