We have enjoyed another busy week at the academy.
On Monday, our Year 9 students attended a performance by a visiting theatre group; “AlterEgo Creative Solutions”, aimed at raising awareness, kick-starting conversations and promoting cultural change around Sexism, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence. This is an important part of our PSHE curriculum, and we hope to deliver similar sessions around other topics as the year progresses. We would encourage all parents to have similar conversations with their child about these matters.
On Wednesday we carried out flu vaccinations for students who had parental consent. I am pleased to say that all students conducted themselves sensibly and maturely.
Also on Wednesday, we were visited by the OAT Lead Practitioner for P.E., who carried out a thorough review of our P.E. department. The initial feedback was extremely positive and recognised the hard work and dedication of our P.E. team. We also enjoyed a visit from our Regional Director on Thursday. We always welcome such visits, as they help to inform and develop our practice.
Our Sixth Form Parents’ Evening was held on Thursday and was well attended. I hope that parents found this useful and informative. This week has also seen the introduction of our Sixth Form Rewards scheme, designed to recognise students’ efforts, independence and activities above and beyond the taught curriculum.
This week also marked our first student “Word Multi-Millionaire”, as part of our Accelerated Reader Programme. Well done to Keira in Year 8 for this achievement.
May I please remind you of the expectations regarding school uniform. Students may elect to wear the school jumper if they wish, but hoodies, sweatshirts or any other jumpers are not permitted, and students will be asked to remove these. The full uniform policy can be viewed on our website. Similarly, coats should not be worn in the corridors or indoor communal areas. Students will be permitted to wear coats in the classroom if it is particularly cold, and if permission is explicitly given by the class teacher. I would also be grateful if you could ensure that your child brings a face-covering to school each day (unless exempt), as we have noticed an increase in the number of face-masks we are giving out on a daily basis. Thank you for your support with this.
Finally, I would like to wish you all an enjoyable weekend, and look forward to updating you further next week.
