Weekly Update - 3rd September 2021

It has been absolutely wonderful to see students returning to the academy this week, and to have the opportunity to meet and speak with many of them personally.

Assemblies have been held for every year group to formally welcome them back, and to set out the expectations for the forthcoming academic year.  As you are aware, we have implemented a new “off and out of sight” mobile phone policy, and I am pleased to say that the vast majority of students have quickly embraced this.  It has been lovely to see students interacting and talking to each other and developing their social skills during their break and lunch times.

I would like to remind you that should you need to contact your child/children during the school day, you should telephone the school reception or student reception, and a message will be conveyed immediately.  Similarly, should your child need to contact you, they will be permitted to use the telephone based at student reception.  Where there is a specific, documented medical reason for a student to use their mobile phone during the day (for example diabetes monitoring), they will be issued with a medical pass to this effect.  Many thanks for your support with this new policy.

Our new Year 7 students have settled very quickly, and have enjoyed getting to know their teachers and making new friends.

The Year 12’s enjoyed taking part in the Enterprise Day yesterday, and produced some innovative and impressive ideas and products – clearly future entrepreneurs and leaders!

A reminder that the Prom for last year’s Year 11 students will take place on Wednesday 8th September at Hylands House.  We can’t wait to celebrate with them and see them in all their finery.

I would like to thank you for making me feel so welcome, and for your support, and I look forward to sharing all of our academy news with you throughout the year.
