A significant amount of research from around the world suggests that reading for pleasure can raise literacy standards and help support student progress. As a school, we take every opportunity to promote reading for pleasure. This includes:
BookBuzz is a programme run by BookTrust to promote reading for pleasure and offer school children aged 11 to 13 years the opportunity to choose a book of their own to take home and keep. 16 titles are specially selected from well-known authors across a wide range of genres to ensure students in Year 7 can choose a suitable book.
Ormiston Rivers Academy are pleased to participate in this initiative through our Learning Resource Centre Library each year, and this is a great opportunity to develop lifelong reading skills, discover new authors and book titles.
Parents, carers and students are notified when the books are available, and students can visit the Library to decide which title they would like to read. Books are just £3.30, and payment can be made through ParentPay.
