Oracy is defined simply as: learning through talk.

Oracy encompasses speaking, listening and understanding, vital skills that all students need to succeed not only in educational settings, but later in life too.

Oracy is practised in the classroom, but students also have to opportunity to participate in extracurricular competitions like the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge and Make Yourself Heard.

Student Literacy Ambassadors:

We are currently recruiting for two student ambassadors from each year group that will meet half termly to discuss ways that Literacy can be improved throughout the school. These students will work with staff and other pupils to promote reading, writing and oracy around the school and build a love of learning around Literacy.

Literacy Ambassadors will:

  • Ensure that all Word of The Week boards are updated on Monday mornings
  • Take part in student voice panels about literacy initiatives
  • Support literacy initiatives across the academy
